Yoga practice for right – left brain integration

Need to focus on a difficult task? Try this short yoga practice that helps with right-left brain integration. It uses cross-lateral movements, crossing the midline of the body, mismatched and “defying expectations” movements for improved coordination and focus, and alternate nostril breathing to balance the autonomic nervous system. See if you can pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time after completing this practice! Learn more about right-left brain integration through movement.

Scientists estimate that an average person has about 60,000 thoughts per day, and about 90% of those thoughts are repetitive. This means that about 90% of our mental activity involves spinning in circles and revisiting the same stuff over and over again. The yogis call it chitta vrtti or “the vortex of the mind.”

  • Olga, thank you for everything that you continue to do! I always benefit from something you write, as a yoga teacher; your dedication to keep learning, and to share what you learn, is an invaluable support to me in my work with my students (and for myself too!).

  • Love this sequence and emphasis on right/left brain.there are so many distractions keeping me from staying on track with projects. I will use this sequence and more tomorrow morning with my students! Love your website and app. Thank You ☺
