Release tension in the hips and integrate your brain hemispheres

Your right and left brain hemispheres approach the tasks you do throughout your day a bit differently: the left one looks at things linearly, as a sequence, and the right one more whole-istically. The curious thing is that, although the hemispheres need to cooperate, they can instead be involved in a power struggle. The cooperation between the right and left brain is essential for us to learn better, function more intelligently, and become proficient in anything. Whatever it is you are engaged in during the day, each hemisphere has something important to contribute for you to have access to both technique and inspiration.

In this short practice, we work with the right and the left side of your body separately and direct the energy into the lower body to release tension in the hips. We use movement to direct our energy along its main channels (vayus) in a logical sequence. We take new energy in (prana vayu), process it (samana vayu), distribute it throughout the body (vyana vayu), release excess (apana vayu), and then use it for our growth and evolution (udana vayu).

Then, we use Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), “rub your tummy / pat your head” technique, and Hakini mudra to rebalance the relationship between the right and left sides of the body and integrate your right and left brain hemispheres.

This Yoga Boost is meant to loosen your body, focus your mind, and help you move through your day more productively, smoothly, and gracefully. Please give it a try and let us know what you think!

Love this sequence! I could feel the connection if both sides of my body, flowing from one side to the other. Afterwards, my mind was more clear and my thoughts felt accurate! Loved it!!
