Choose your direction for 2026 with an intention tray
In yoga, intentionality matters a lot. Setting an intention for a yoga practice is more than just a ritual; it defines the entire practice. Your intention simply answers one question: What do you want to accomplish in this practice? Once you have a clear answer, you can decide which tools to use, how to combine them, and how to evaluate the outcome.
This idea extends naturally to daily life. Making intentional choices while staying aware of what matters to you right now and what you’re working toward, helps you stay aligned with your needs and goals. I once had a student who created an action plan at the start of each year. He would reflect on how he wanted his year to look, both professionally and personally. This annual exercise became a meaningful marker in his life, offering him a moment to celebrate progress and make conscious decisions about the direction he wanted to take.
The new year is always a perfect opportunity to reassess and envision. What do you want your year to look like? It’s easy to get lost in general resolutions like eat better, exercise more, or go to bed earlier. While these goals are valuable, they can feel vague or half-hearted. Instead, ask yourself: What is the one thing that would truly enrich my life this year? Take some time to narrow it down until it sparks a wholehearted “yes!” from both your mind and your heart.
Once you’ve identified your focus, choose one object (or several) that visually represent your intention. Place them somewhere you’ll see regularly: on a tray, a shelf, or any space in your line of sight. Make sure these objects look pleasant to you and make you feel positive, inspired, and motivated.
Your intention tray can be as unique as your goals. Maybe it encourages creativity, with your favorite art supplies or musical instruments, or a deeper connection with nature, featuring elements from environments you love. Perhaps it’s a reminder to master a new skill, dedicate time to a personal project, or nurture a specific relationship. Style your tray beautifully, making it both inspiring and inviting.
When placed in your field of vision, your intention tray becomes more than decoration. It’s a daily visual reminder of the intentionality you bring to your life.
Are you ready to create your own and see where your intention takes you this year?
